Airtel 2Mbps “Live”
On March 1st I requested Airtel to switch my current 256kbps unlimited plant to 2Mbmps limited (3GB) plan. (For more details on Airtel new plans, check this post)
After making multiple calls to Airtel customer service, the plan switch is finally done today.
Nice to see downloads happening at 1.5-1.8Mb/second and nice to watch YouTube videos without any "buffering" :)
However access to my blog is still hopeless !! I guess I should switch to a better hosting !!
By the way anybody knows about a good bandwidth tracking tool ? With my previous unlimited bandwidth plan, I didn't have to worry about usage, but with the current 3GB limitation I ...{ 25 comments }
2Mbps from BSNL
The highlight of the new tariff plan is the 2Mbps bandwidth being offered across all plans.
However there is also a disclaimer in the form of this statement - Wherever technically feasible !
Unfortunately I use Airtel Service and I am hoping that they will also revise the tariffs soon ! { 4 comments }

With the advent of DSL, Internet access speed in India has improved a lot. There was a time when I used to download files at 1/2 KB/s and now with my 256kpbs broadband connection, I can get a maximum of 30KB/sec.
The best connection a normal consumer can get as of today is the 512kbps connection which translates to around 60KB/sec download speed. Airtel and BSNL are the major players in the DSL arena.
However from the past few months many are finding it difficult to get a DSL connection and both Bharti and BSNL are saying that they are upgrading their infrastructure to support more users.
